Key Highlights

Central Axis of the Mausoleum

The mausoleum area is arranged along a central axis: outer city, mausoleum road, offering hall, main hall, and burial mound, each rising in height. The offering hall is a structure from the Yuan Dynasty, retaining early architectural features in its bracket sets and beam frames, and is the most architecturally valuable building in the entire mausoleum area. The main hall houses a statue of Emperor Shun, with Ehuang and Nüying enshrined on both sides.

Ancient Cypresses and Inscriptions on Virtue and Filial Piety

Ancient cypresses line both sides of the mausoleum road, many over several hundred years old, with gnarled and twisting branches. The garden also preserves stone inscriptions from various eras, mostly focusing on Shun's "filial piety" and "virtue," serving as the most direct carriers of the southern Jin culture of virtue and filial piety.

Recommended Route

  • Classic: Mausoleum gate → Ancient cypresses on the road → Offering hall → Main hall → Burial mound, about 1 hour.
  • Combine with Guandi Temple, Yongle Palace, and Yingying Tower for a full day in Yuncheng.

Practical Information

A chartered car from downtown Yuncheng takes about twenty-five minutes. The mausoleum area is open, with limited shade, so it can be quite sunny at noon in summer; it is recommended to visit in the morning or evening. Along with the Xiezhou Guandi Temple, it belongs to the Yuncheng urban area, so there is ample time to visit both in one day.
