Destination Details
Libo is one of the places in Guizhou whose reputation has risen the fastest in recent years, and the reason is straightforward: its waters are among the most beautiful in southern China — the karst underground water is rich in minerals and shows a gradient from jade green to peacock blue under sunlight. The Xiaoqikong Scenic Area is a one-way valley with sightseeing buses throughout, making it friendly for elders with average stamina and is the most relaxing day on a Guizhou itinerary.
Main Highlights
Xiaoqikong Ancient Bridge
A seven-arched stone bridge from the Daoguang era, covered with vines, which is the origin of the scenic area's name.
Water Forest
A section of the Xiangshui River is filled with trees, and people can walk through the forest stepping on stones in the water.
Wolong Pool
A deep pool formed by the emerging underground river, with unreal blue-green water; the curved weir is a scenic spot.
Mandarin Duck Lake
A water maze formed by two connected water bodies, which you can row a boat through.
Laya Waterfall and 68-step Cascade Waterfall
The Xiangshui River drops 68 levels within 1.6 kilometers, forming a series of small waterfalls.
Suggested Stay and Route
- Recommended stay: 1–2 days.
- It is more efficient to combine with other destinations in the same area. See the “Extendable Routes” and “Province” sections below for reference.
Local Tips
- The distance between the east and west gates of the scenic area is very far. It is recommended to enter from the east gate and exit from the west gate (or vice versa) to avoid backtracking.
- The paths in the Water Forest and 68-step Cascade section are slippery. Make sure to wear non-slip shoes.
- Libo, Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village, Huangguoshu, and Guiyang are all connected by high-speed rail or direct buses, which can be combined into a five-day Guizhou itinerary.
