Changsha Travel Guide
Orange Isle · Yuelu Mountain · Taiping Street · Hunan Cuisine
Changsha is the most delicious city in Central China: the fireworks at Orange Isle, Yuelu Academy and Aiwan Pavilion, stinky tofu and sugar oil rice cakes on Taiping Old Street, as well as crayfish and Chayan Yuese everywhere. Three to four days are enough to eat your fill.

Destination Details
In recent years, Changsha has become the first stop for young people from Central China returning home. The reason is straightforward: tasty food, affordable prices, and nightlife that never ends. The spiciness of Hunan cuisine is fresh, not dry; dishes like chopped chili fish head, stir-fried pork with chili, and flavor shrimp have distinct layers. During the day, you can go up the mountains to see academies or down to the islets to view the river; at night, you can wander into Taiping Street and the Wuyi business district. The pace is just right.
Key Highlights
Orange Isle
A long and narrow sandbar in the middle of the Xiangjiang River, featuring a statue of young Mao Zedong at the tip of the isle. There is a fireworks show on weekend evenings.
Yuelu Mountain and Yuelu Academy
The millennia-old Yuelu Academy still operates at its original site. The Aiwan Pavilion on the mountain comes from Du Mu's line "Stopping the carriage, I sit and love the maple forest at dusk."
Taiping Old Street
The most well-preserved ancient street in Changsha, with Jia Yi's former residence tucked in a small alley. The street is full of snacks.
Hunan Provincial Museum
All the unearthed artifacts from the Mawangdui Han tombs are here. The plain silk garments and Lady Xinzhui are the treasures of the museum.
Wenheyou and Super Wenheyou
The entire old Changsha city scene from the 1980s has been recreated inside the mall, combining crayfish dishes with nostalgic settings.
