Wuxi Travel Guide
Taihu Lake · Yuantou Islet · Lingshan Grand Buddha · Braised Spare Ribs
Wuxi is the most comfortable city in Jiangnan by the side of Taihu Lake: the cherry blossoms at Yuantouzhu with the sails of Taihu, the Grand Buddha at Lingshan with the Brahma Palace, and the night view of the canal on Nanchang Street, paired with Wuxi spare ribs and xiaolongbao. Two to three days is suitable.

Destination Details
The temperament of Wuxi is "water": the city is by Lake Tai, the canal runs through the city, and the gardens all make use of water. Its location is also convenient—40 minutes by high-speed train from Shanghai, 20 minutes from Suzhou, making it suitable for a two-day buffer in an East China itinerary. The food tends to be sweet, with dishes like braised pork ribs and soup dumplings using heavy sugar coloring, which is very familiar to the palate of people from Jiangsu and Zhejiang.
Main Highlights
Yuantouzhu (Turtle Head Isle)
A peninsula extending into Lake Tai, inscribed by Guo Moruo as "the most beautiful spot on Lake Tai." At the end of March, 20,000 cherry blossom trees bloom along Changchun Bridge.
Lingshan Grand Buddha and Brahma Palace
An 88-meter-tall bronze standing Buddha, with the East Yang wood carvings and glazed murals inside the Brahma Palace being exceptionally grand in scale.
Nanchang Street
The old street section of the Grand Canal in Wuxi; the bars and restaurants on both sides of Qingming Bridge are the liveliest at night.
Li Garden
A private garden traditionally associated with Fan Li and Xi Shi boating here; the long corridor facing Lake Tai provides a good viewpoint for the water.
Huishan Ancient Town
The largest ancestral hall complex in Jiangnan, with over a hundred ancestral halls lined up along the foot of Huishan Mountain; also the hometown of clay figurines.
