Sanya Travel Guide
Yalong Bay · Wuzhizhou Island · Island Vacation · Tropical Seaside
Sanya is the only large-scale tropical seaside resort in China, and it is also the most relaxing stop for Chinese families and elders. This site organizes choices of bays, seasonal windows for island water activities, and key points to avoid pitfalls.
This site only handles information compilation and itinerary design; prices and bookings are based on final confirmation.
Destination Details
The correct way to enjoy Sanya is to "do nothing in particular." The biggest difference from other destinations is that in other cities you go to see things, while in Sanya you go to stay. Choosing the right bay and hotel completes eighty percent of the trip.
Main Highlights
How to Choose a Bay
Yalong Bay has the best sand, clearest water, and well-established hotels, suitable for first-time visitors and families with children; Haitang Bay is newer, with more luxurious hotels, close to the duty-free city, and slightly rougher seas; Sanya Bay is close to downtown and the airport, offers high cost-performance, but the sand and water quality are not as good as the first two; Dadonghai is lively and convenient. For elders and kids, prioritize resort hotels in Yalong Bay or Haitang Bay.
Wuzhizhou Island
The island offers the most concentrated and best water activities in Sanya. Snorkeling, diving, jet skiing, and parasailing are all available. Water visibility depends on the season and waves, best in winter. During peak season, wait times are long, so early ferry trips are recommended. Take medication in advance if prone to seasickness.
Tropical Rainforest and Culture
Yalong Bay Tropical Paradise Forest Park and Yanoda Rainforest are two different orientations: the former offers bay panoramas and cross-river dragon bridges, while the latter showcases rainforest vegetation and streams. With children, the latter is recommended for stronger interactivity.
Nanshan and Tianya Haijiao
Nanshan Cultural Tourism Zone's Nanhai Guanyin is a landmark; Tianya Haijiao is a traditional photo spot. Both are mainly for "been there" experiences, so you can choose if time is limited.
Suggested Stay and Route
- 4 days: stay at one bay, one day at Wuzhizhou Island, half a day in the rainforest, relax by the sea.
- 6 days: add a night in Haitang Bay, or spend half a day shopping at the duty-free store.
- Do not switch hotels every day; the holiday experience will be interrupted by moving luggage.
Best Season
October to April of the following year is peak season, with stable weather, clear seas, and low humidity. From May to June, it starts to get hot, July to September is typhoon season and summer peak, affecting sea conditions and flights, but prices are lowest. Chinese New Year and winter vacation are the two most expensive periods.
Local Tips
- For water activities, choose officially operated locations, follow instructors and sea condition instructions, and avoid entering the water if intoxicated or unwell.
- UV rays are extremely strong; sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses are essential.
- For seafood, choose shops with clear pricing, and ask the price before ordering.
- During typhoon season, check the weather before departure as flights and ferries may be canceled.
