Jinan Travel Guide
Baotu Spring · Daming Lake · Qianfoshan (Thousand Buddha Mountain) · Shandong Cuisine
Jinan is the 'City of Springs': the three streams of Baotu Spring, the lotus flowers in Daming Lake, citizens fetching water by Heihu Spring, along with Qianfoshan Mountain and Shandong cuisine. It is also a transit point to Tai'an, Qufu, and Qingdao. Two to three days are suitable.

Destination Details
Jinan is the starting point for cultural tourism in Shandong: one hour south to Tai'an to climb Mount Tai, further south to Qufu to see the Three Confucian Sites, east to Qingdao to see the sea. The classic "one mountain, one water, one sage" route is connected in this way. Shandong cuisine is the branch of the Four Great Chinese Cuisines that emphasizes cooking techniques and broth, featuring dishes such as sweet and sour carp, braised intestines, and milk soup with pu cai (a type of vegetable).
Main Attractions
Baotu Spring
The most famous of Jinan's 72 springs, with three flows of water rising from the bottom of the pond. The memorial hall of Li Qingzhao is by the spring.
Daming Lake
A lake formed by the city's spring water, described as "lotus flowers on four sides, willows on three, half the city in mountain scenery, half in the lake.”
Heihu Spring
A natural spring by the city moat. Every morning, residents come with buckets to fetch water, showing the everyday life of Jinan.
Thousand Buddha Mountain
A mountain in the southern part of Jinan; Xingguo Zen Temple and the Sui Dynasty Qianfo Cliff stone carvings are on the mountainside.
Qu Shui Ting Street
An old alley with spring water flowing through it, exemplifying old Jinan's characteristic of "every household having spring water, every home with hanging willows."

- High-speed train from Jinan to Tai'an takes 17 minutes, making a day trip to Mount Tai possible.
- Walking around the old city area (Baotu Spring—Daming Lake—Qu Shui Ting Street) takes about two hours.
