Mo Ri Ge Le River Travel Guide

The World's Number One Winding Stream · Grassland High Point · Herdsman

The Morigele River is known as 'the world's first winding river': its course twists and turns repeatedly across the grasslands, and when viewed from a high vantage point, it looks like a silver ribbon disturbed by the wind. It is the most photogenic spot on the Hulunbuir Grassland and also a place to understand the scale of the grasslands.

The Morigele River originates from the western slopes of the Greater Khingan Mountains and winds through the Hulunbuir Grassland before joining the Hailar River. The river has a very slight drop, so it meanders freely across the flat grasslands, forming dense river curves. The highest point in Chen Barhu Banner is the best place for observation.

Key Highlights

Overlooking from the High Point

Standing on the high hill and looking down, the river twists back and forth across the meadows, appearing as a continuous bright line under the sunlight. This is the most typical photo of the grassland and is also where many people first intuitively understand "how vast the grassland is."

Herders and Livestock

There are herders nearby who welcome tourists, allowing visitors to drink milk tea in a yurt and watch milking. Cows and sheep go out to pasture in the morning and return in the evening. The evening light combined with cooking smoke creates the best photo opportunities.

Grassland Sunset

The horizon of the grassland is very low, and the sunset lasts a long time. The last half hour provides the best light and is worth waiting for.

Suggested Duration

  • 2 hours: High point and riverside grassland.
  • Half day: Add herder experience.

Local Reminders

  • The grassland is the herders' production resource; vehicles must follow existing roads and must not crush the grass.
  • The grassland has a large temperature difference between morning and evening, so even in July, bring a thick jacket.
  • There are many mosquitoes, so mosquito repellent is essential.
