Jiufen Travel Guide
Shuzqi Road · A-Mei Tea House · Keelung Mountain · Mountain City Night View
Jiufen is the most famous mountain town in Taiwan, China: the stone steps and red lanterns of Shuqilu, the sea-view terrace of Amei Teahouse, and the Yin-Yang Sea overlooking from Keelung Mountain. It is possible to travel to and from Taipei in one day, but staying overnight is even better.

Destination Details
Jiufen first rose to prominence because of its gold mines, and after the mines were abandoned, it was rediscovered through movies and animations. It is only an hour away from Taipei, yet it feels entirely different — stone steps built along the mountainside, constant mist, and the view of the sea from the tea house terraces. It is recommended to combine a visit with Jinguashi and Shifen in a single day, stay on the mountain to see the night view, and avoid the daytime crowds.
Main Highlights
Shuqi Road
Over three hundred stone steps ascend along the hillside, with tea houses and snack shops on both sides displaying red lanterns, making it the iconic scene of Jiufen.
Amei Tea House
Located in the middle section of Shuqi Road, the sea-view platform is considered one of the inspirations for "Spirited Away."
Keelung Mountain
You can hike from Jiufen, and the summit offers views of both the Pacific Ocean and the yellow-blue boundary of Yin-Yang Sea.
Gold Museum
The Japanese-style buildings in Jinguashi tell the 100-year history of gold mining in this mountain area.
Shifenliao and Shifen Waterfall
An old street along the Pingxi line where you can release sky lanterns and see a curtain-like waterfall nearly 100 meters wide at the same stop.
