Huashan South Peak Travel Guide
Mount Hua Highest Peak · Sky-High Plank Road · Luoyan Peak
The South Peak is the highest peak of Huashan, with an elevation of over 2,100 meters. The most thrilling part is the sky plank walkway outside the South Heaven Gate — wooden planks suspended on a vertical cliff, less than a foot wide, with the entire route secured only by a safety belt and iron chains.

Destination Details
South Peak is the highest of the five peaks of Mount Hua, with an elevation of about 2,150 meters, and is also called Luoyan Peak. It is said that wild geese stop here to rest when they fly by, hence the name.
Main Highlights
Luoyan Peak Summit
The summit offers the widest view and allows you to overlook the other peaks of Mount Hua. There is a stone tablet inscribed with "Mount Hua Extreme Peak" at the top, which is also a popular spot for watching the sunrise and sea of clouds.
Sky Plank Walkway
Starting from the South Heaven Gate, this walkway is built by fixing stone beams into the vertical cliff and laying wooden planks on top. It is less than a foot wide and several tens of meters long. When walking, you need to fasten a safety harness and hold onto the iron chains on the cliff. It is not mandatory, and those with a fear of heights can choose to just look instead of walking.
Recommended Route
- Classic: Take the cable car up to West Peak → South Peak → Sky Plank Walkway → East Peak → cable car down from North Peak, in one day.
- Limited stamina: Round trip to West Peak only, viewing South Peak and West Peak.
Practical Information
The Sky Plank Walkway requires an additional on-site fee for rental of the safety harness and may be closed in the event of strong winds or rain/snow. The walkway is one-way and may have long queue times, so it is recommended to go in the morning. The weather at the summit is unpredictable, and a raincoat is more practical than an umbrella.
