Tiger Hill Travel Guide
Yunyan Temple Pagoda · Jianchi · Thousand-People Rock
Tiger Hill is not high, only over thirty meters, yet it is called the 'Number One Scenic Spot in Wu Zhong.' The Yunyan Temple Pagoda at the top of the hill is a leaning Song Dynasty brick tower, with the body of the pagoda tilted more than two meters to the northeast, earning it the nickname 'China's Leaning Tower of Pisa.'

Destination Details
Tiger Hill is located in the northwest of Suzhou's ancient city and has a history of more than 2,500 years. It is said that King Helü of Wu was buried here, and three days after his burial, a white tiger was seen crouching on the hill, hence the name Tiger Hill. People in Suzhou say, "Going to Suzhou without visiting Tiger Hill is a regret."
Highlights
Yunyan Temple Pagoda
Commonly known as Tiger Hill Pagoda, it was built from the Five Dynasties to the early Northern Song Dynasty. It is an octagonal, seven-story brick pagoda. Due to uneven soil at its base, the pagoda has been leaning northeast year by year, with a maximum offset of over two meters, making it one of the ancient pagodas with the greatest tilt in China. To protect the structure, visitors can now only view it from the outside.
Sword Pond
At the end of the Thousand-People Stone lies a narrow, deep pond, flanked by steep stone walls, with a stone bridge above. Legend has it that King Helü's tomb is at the bottom of the pond, accompanied by three thousand treasured swords. The cliff wall is carved with the four large characters "Tiger Hill Sword Pond," written by Yan Jun, son of Yan Zhenqing.
