Qutang Gorge · Liu Bei Entrusting His Son · Filming Location for the Ten Yuan Renminbi

Baidi City is located on Baidi Mountain at the mouth of the Qutang Gorge, surrounded by water on three sides, and it is the best spot to view Kuimen—the canyon pattern on the back of the fifth series of the 10 yuan banknote was taken from here. TrafficFengjie County, Chongqing, a common stop for Yangtze River Three Gorges cruises

Baidicheng is located east of Fengjie County in Chongqing, at the western entrance of Qutang Gorge. At the end of the Western Han Dynasty, Gongsun Shu built a city here and proclaimed himself the White Emperor; during the Three Kingdoms period, Liu Bei retreated here after failing to attack Wu and entrusted his son to Zhuge Liang in Yong'an Palace. The current buildings were rebuilt during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, but the location and terrain have remained unchanged.

Key Highlights

Kuimen and Ten Yuan Background

Standing on the city and looking east, Chijia Mountain and Baiyan Mountain face each other across the river, where the river narrows to less than 100 meters, known as Kuimen. The back design of the fifth series of the 10 yuan banknote is taken from here, making it the most famous scenic spot in the Three Gorges.

Baidimiao Temple and Mingliang Hall

The temple houses statues of Liu Bei, Zhuge Liang, Guan Yu, and Zhang Fei, with Mingliang Hall being the main structure. The Guardian Hall uses a group of statues to recreate the scene of Liu Bei entrusting his son.

Stele Forest and Bamboo Branch Poems

There are many inscriptions within the city, among which the Bamboo Branch Poems Stele and the Phoenix Stele are the most famous. Both Du Fu and Li Bai left their poems here.
