FAQ

What are the voltage and plug specifications in China? Do I need an adapter?

The standard household voltage in China is 220V / 50Hz. The sockets are mainly two-flat-pin (Type A) and three-pin (Type I, angled pins). In recent years, newly built hotels and stations generally provide universal sockets (compatible with European round pins and American flat pins). Travel adapters from most countries will work, but bringing a universal adapter is the most reliable. Chargers for electronic devices (phones, cameras, laptops) generally support 100–240V wide voltage, so no transformer is needed; however, purely resistive appliances like hairdryers or electric kettles that are not wide voltage will burn out if plugged in directly. Hotels usually provide hairdryers, so there is no need to bring your own.
