FAQ

How is dining handled on the high-speed train?

There are three ways to eat on Chinese high-speed trains: 1. Onboard dining cars and boxed meals — There are dining bars near cars 15 or 9, with boxed meals costing 30–100 yuan, and the quality is average; 2. Ordering takeout via the 12306 App — This is a feature many people don't know about. By entering your train number and seat number in the app, you can order food from stations along the route, which staff will deliver to your seat when the train arrives; 3. Bringing your own — This is the most common and flexible option. Convenience stores and fast-food restaurants inside and around the stations make it easy to buy food. Additionally, there are no restrictions on bringing food on high-speed trains

Additionally, there are no restrictions on bringing food and drinks (including hot food) on high-speed trains, which is much more flexible than on airplanes. For long trips, it’s recommended to bring some fruits and snacks, as the convenience stores at Chinese stations have a wide variety to choose from.
